Making high heels
Thanks to Natalia Zelmanov's thorough tutorial and countless analysis of purchased shoes I have created my very first pair of high heels. I went for the simplest style. My goal was to learn how to make nice looking smooth shoe sole without rough angles and shapes that don't follow feet's curves. Here is what I came up with :
When building I decided to start with the final size because some of the prims here are nano and because it is so hard to calculate the size of a shoe when building a big version first. So I positioned my avatar on a stand, created a new system shoe base (shoe height:40, heel:100, toe shape:43, toe thickness:28, platform height:1, platform width:33) and used her feet as manequinne to decide the length and width of my shoe. This is how I rezzed the prims for it :
There are no standard way to rez a shoe sole and especially a heel. I know at least three other ways to make heels so its up to designer to decide which one to go for. After fitting all of the pieces side by side, I made three invisible prims to hide avatar's system shoe base beneath the shoe sole:
Again, these invisible prims can be of any shape and size as long as they cover the system made shoe base of avatar. Invisible prims are just normal prims with invisible prim script applied to them. You can obtain the script anywhere in the in-world for free. IM me if you cannot find it. To apply it to the prim, just go to the prim contents folder and drag and drop the script from you rinventory to the folder. In a couple of seconds the prim becomes invisible. This is how I rezzed them :
So after completing the construction of a sole, the fun part starts. from this point there are no rights or wrongs, you can design your shoe with whatever you want. The easiest shape for upper shoe part is of course slingback open toe sandals. All you need to make is a back strap to support your heel and belt to cover your toes. This is how I rezzed it :
The belt and the strap are constructed from one prim which was duplicated and then cut. To make a strap I used torus, cut it from the left, duplicated it and then cut it from the right. Same with belt. As you can see all of the prim numbers are consistened with each other, except the path cut numbers.
Feel free to IM me if you have any questions or problems. These shoes are available for purchase at SL boutique http://www.slboutique.com/index.php?p=buy&user_avatar_id=45137 with full modify, copy permissions! ^-^

Very nice shoe tut. I'm a shoe freak myself. Well, not in wearing the ladies shoes but I do make them :D...However, I'm sure there is a SIM on SL just for that ;)
Wow! Thanks, Dendre. I've been trying to build a heeled boot for a while, and have been super-frustrated by shaping the sole and heel. Thanks so much for the step-by-step!
how do you make highheels like what materials do you need? im so confused!
